Historic Wilson Grocery (Store)

Image of Historic Wilson Grocery (Story – 1970), which is now owned Joe Lindsey and located in the mid-Michigan village of Idlewild, an African American vacation spot that was established in the 1920. Because of segregation, Blacks were not allowed to stay a White Establishments, they created their own. African American as well as people from other ethnic backgrounds, political, religious and economic groups and talents, flocked to the wooded location, from Detroit, Chicago, and as far as New York, every summer to relax and enjoy each others company, fish, swim and watch live performances and more. As African American’s wealth began to grow, they began to build cabins, hotels, restaurants, bars, and grocery stores, until it became an official village and then eventually became designated as a Michigan Historic Site.
